Features:
The pH value or "degree of acidity" indicates how much the water is
acidic or basic (alkaline). Pure water reacts like this
neutral and has a pH value of 7. If the elements prevail
acids, the pH value drops (pH < 7), if i
basic components, the pH value rises (pH > 7).
Many organisms react extremely sensitively
to strong variations in the pH value. In the aquariology of
soft water, the optimum pH value range for most
part of fish and plants is between 6.5 and 7.2. Biotopes
special, such as Lake Malawi in Africa, exhibit
however also higher pH values up to 9.0. in aquariology
of sea water the optimum pH value, as in the
oceans, fluctuates between 8.0 and 8.5. Strong variations, as well as a
excessive lowering or raising of the pH value,
must be absolutely avoided and therefore the degree of
acidity in the tank should be checked regularly. |
